The forming press (1) contains a shearing station (4) for cutting off a piece from the round stock (2) drawn into the station section by section up to an adjustable length stop (5), one or more forming stations (8) and a measuring device (12) for monitoring the pressed parts at least as regards constancy of volume, dimensions and/or shape. The length stop (5) has a motor-driven adjusting drive (6) which is connected to the measuring device (12), forming a feedback control. The pressed parts are fed to the measuring device automatically by means of a feed device (9). The automatic control system adjusts the length stop (5) during the operation of the forming press so that the decisive dimensions of the pieces of material always remain constant. The measuring device can also be arranged ahead of the forming stations, the pieces of stock thus being monitored before being processed. <IMAGE>
