The device for electrostatic application of coating material is provided with a material feeder which on the outlet side is electrically insulating. It has an atomiser nozzle (5), associated with which there are charging electrodes (6a, 6b) to which a high voltage is applied. In order to suppress potentially igniting sparks, an envelope (10) is provided, which encloses the appliance housing at least on the outlet side, consists of an insulating material, e.g. a fluorohydrocarbon polymer, and may be coated with finely dispersed, high-resistance or semiconducting material. <IMAGE>
