In this electrical thermometer, which serves chiefly medical aims and has a display device with a temperature sensor, a comparison is made of measured values which follow one another in time. The aim of the measuring instrument is to be able to carry out in a short time reliable temperature measurements which are independent of accidental features and are also suitable for use in clinics. For this purpose, a clock pulse generator (3) emits to a measuring circuit (RT, 1, 2) a first trigger pulse (IS) for temperature measurement, whereupon a first number (M1') of measurement pulses (C1) which is proportional to the temperature is generated in this measurement circuit (RT, 1, 2). A second number (M2') of measurement pulses (C1), which is proportional to the temperature, is generated in the measurement circuit (RT, 1, 2) by at least one further trigger pulse (IS) for temperature measurement, the number of measurement pulses (C1) of successive measurements being compared in a comparison stage (5), and further processing of the measurement result being carried out to produce a temperature display in the event of agreement or tolerable difference between the number (M1' to M4') of the measurement pulses (C1). <IMAGE>
