1413216 Sintered cobalt rare earth magnets GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 2 Nov 1973 [2 Nov 1972] 51060/73 Headings C7A and C7D A magnetic material for producing sintered magnets comprises particles of a cobalt-rare earth intermetallic compound and 1-80 wt per cent of a coating of an alloy consisting of 4.2-39.3 wt per cent of Zn or As with at least one of Pb, Cu, Al, Sn, Ni, Co, Au and In. The coated particles are formed by mixing the powders together and heating the mixture to alloy the powders. Alternatively the particles can first be coated with Zn or As and then mixed with the alloying powder. The intermetallic compounds listed are Co 5 Sm, Co 5 Y, Co 5 MM, CosSmPr, Co 5 Sm PrMM, Co 17 Sm 2 , (Co, Fe) 1 7 Sm 2 , with sizes ranging from -325 mesh to -100 + 170 mesh, MoS 2 is included in one example as a lubricant. |
