Tripping device for high speed cable twisting machines has a pivotal lever journalled in bushings which are carried by the bearing pedestal of the wire supply drum support frame the lever which abuts the wire is biassed towards it by a torsion spring carried by the shaft of lever. Lever is associated operatively with a tripping lever which carries a contact member which co-operates with an excitation coil supported by bobbin carrier, the coil being disposed in the tripping path of the lever when the latter is displaced by wire breaking or by the lever when the latter is operator centrifugally or gravemetrically due to drum support frame rotation. Gap between member and coil is adjustable by setting screw. Tripping device is of the multi-purpose type and responds either to frame rotation and/or wire breaking.
