The device serves to protect high-pressure feed-water preheaters in steam power plants. These feed-water preheaters are provided with a shut-off valve and a reversing valve which are acted upon by internal medium. To control these valves, an auxiliary valve (8) is provided which consists of a control valve (10) and a shuttle valve (11) which are accommodated in a common valve housing (9). The shut-off cones (12, 20) of the control valve (10) and of the shuttle valve (11) are provided with a return position in each case in the opposite direction. One and the same valve spindle (15) acts on the shut-off cones (12, 20) in each case against the restoring force. This device guarantees the operating reliability of the shut-off valve and the reversing valve and keeps down the cost for the control of the same. <IMAGE>
