A statistical analyser for a machine has a transducer which converts a physical quantity into a voltage. The transducer output is connected to inputs of comparators equal in number to the number of required quantisation levels. The comparator outputs are connected to control inputs of respective switches. The switches have signal inputs connected to outputs of a stabilised pulse generator, and each switch output is connected to a recorder. The inverting input of each comparator except that for the highest quantisation level is connected to an adder, one input of which is connected to a standard voltage generator. The comparator outputs are connected to the adder inputs corresponding to the quantisation levels one lower than the levels appropriate to the comparators.
