1509011 Humidifying and heating breathing air F HOFFMANN - LA ROCHE & CO AG 27 March 1975 [28 March 1974] 13062/75 Heading A5T Air is humidified by feeding it from an inlet duct 27 to a narrow annular passage defined between inner and outer concentric casings 4, 5. The gas then passes through slots 8 in the bottom edge of casing 5 and enters a controllably heated body of water 11 as finely divided streams. The humidified air then rises through the central opening in an annular catch plate 18 within the casing 5 and exits via duct 3. The water is introduced to the casing 5 from a screw fitted reservoir 14, double valve arrangement 25, 22 and small holes 12 in an axial sleeve 10. The water within the sleeve 10 defines a top up zone and maintains the level of water body 11 substantially constant. Upon removal of the reservoir 14 the spring biassed valves 22, 25 close against the ends of tube 13. The water is heated by a plate 30 under the control of thermostat 34 electronic circuit 29 and humidified gas outlet temperature sensor 31. The control may be overriden by manual control, Fig. 2 (not shown). |
