The hawser guide comprises a body, and rollers (1, 2) which project above a ship's deck (4) and forms a through channel for a towing hawser. Each roller is located in a holder, (5, 6) which is hingeable around a shaft which locates squarely on the axis of the roller. The holder in the effective position can be locked, and when not required can be folded away under the level of the deck. The swivel shaft of each arm (9) which contains a roller is coupled with a jack, and each such arm can work in conjunction with a locking mechanism operable by a jack.
