The shaft (1) carries tools (13) for raising moss from and aerating turf. The shaft is of circular section and carries interlocking sleeves (7). The sleeves have round holes for sliding onto the shaft and each has a non circular opening in one face and a boss of similar size and shape extending from the other face. Each tool has profiled cutting edges enabling it to be used in either direction of rotation. The tools have a central hole by which they are keyed to the bosses. The sleeves interlock by their bosses and openings and the sleeve at each end of the shaft is locked to the shaft. A coil spring (21) compresses the packs of sleeves and blades.
