PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF PYRRYL-2-ACETONITRILES

Pyrryl-2-acetonitrile compounds are made by an improved process wherein a dialkyl-(pyrryl-2-methyl)-amine is reacted with an alkyl chloride or alkyl bromide, having up to two carbon atoms in the alkyl, forming a corresponding trialkyl-(pyrryl-2-methyl)-ammonium chloride quaternary salt which solution is then fed to an aqueous solution of alkali cyanide in the presence of a water-immiscible solvent, the alkali cyanide being in defined excess and the reaction being at a controlled temperature level.
