The invention relates to a method for providing feedback on an operating state of a data processing system during a dialog between a user and the data processing system; in said method, the data processing system is effectively connected to at least one state indicator which is to be displayed on a display unit and which dynamically changes in accordance with a current operating state of the data processing system and/or in accordance with user input and thereby provides feedback to the user. The invention further relates to a data processing system for carrying out the disclosed method.
