A sludge of solids in liquid is concentrated by spraying it to contact it as intensively as possible with air. Used in concentrating settled effluent sludge. The area needed for tanks and lagoons to dry the sludge is reduced and it can be worked more quickly than by using static evaporation. If the spray is mobile the sludge can be spread in successive thin layers over an area. A static spray may be used to pick up spread sludge and redistribute it until it reaches the desired water content.
