<p>Powder or granule material is mixed with a liquid in the installation which is equipped with a feed hopper for the solid material with an isolator, a chute from the hopper to the mixer, a vertical housing tube for the drive shaft of a mixing pump, a jacket in which the solids feed chute terminates, the mixing pump itself and a suitable mixing vessel. The solids mix with the water above the pump which enters the jacket via slots mounted above the pump but below the liquid level in the mixing vessel. The jacket is pref. equipped with a further series of adjustable openings by which the flow of liquid to the suction side of the pump is regulated. Spray nozzles may be incorporated within the solids feed chute to facilitate cleaning after mixing. Since the solids meet the liq. below the surface level of the liq. in the vessel, air entrainment is avoided. The turbulence above the pump and during the passage of the liq. and solid material through the pump causes the solids to be finely dispersed and prevent the formation of lumps.</p> |
