The carpet sweeper has an apertured base to which is connected a source of suction. The apertures may be rectangular slots or circular holes. On the outside of each aperture extends a sleeve made of a material that is permeable to air but retains dust particles. The distal ends of the sleeves are sewn up and the proximal ends are open to fit over rigid collars extending from the apertures forming an airtight seal.
