The multi-post machine is used to sand and smooth timber cornice sections, each post locating rotary tools which are adjustable for direction and position. The relatively short conveyor belt bays between adjacent posts feed the workpiece on a linear horizontal trajectory with vertical interbay recesses constituting the machining posts. Guides which slide in both vertical and transverse directions are used to span the recesses when vacated by machine tools. Each bay comprises a roller mounted belt loop, the loops being driven by a common motor. A geared motor drives a segmental shaft which runs in an offset position parallel to the conveyors.
