1476271 Cutting glass sheet SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 13 Jan 1975 [18 Jan 1974] 1332/75 Heading ClM In the cutting of glass sheets in which the line of cut has at least one angle, particularly an acute angle, a tool carrier is pivotable about an axis and carries a cutting tool with a cutting edge which traces an incision in the glass at a point separated from the axis of the tool carrier, the tool carrier being guided along a template above the surface of the glass so that the cutting tool, at the location of the angle, passes the apex of the angle, describes a path in the form of a loop and continues its path in a new direction after having passed a second time the apex of the angle. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 for a right angled turn, a continuous template 25 is used, with a roller 28 engaging the inner curve and rollers 29 and 30 the outer curve. The rotatable cutting tool carrier 33, which carries the cutting tool, is separated from the axis of roller 28 by a distance B, the distance B being sufficient, at least 5 mm and preferably 8 to 10 mm, to give a return movement to the cutting tool as the rollers 29, 30 move round the corner of the template 25 as roller 28 remains at the corner. |
