4-Phenyl piperazino ethanol derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I) R is H, COR3, -CONHR3 or (II) R1-2 are alkoxy, alkylthio, haloalkyl, haloalkylthio or haloalkoxy R3 is alkyl; R4 is H, halogen, amino, nitro, R3 or OR3; the alkyl gps. having 1-4C atoms. (I) are active on the CNS and are useful in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
