PURPOSE:To obtain a trialkoxysilane in high yield, by exchange reaction of trimethoxy silane with an alcohol while distilling off the eliminated methanol in the form of an azeotrope. CONSTITUTION:Trimethoxysilane is reacted with an alcohol of the formula (R is >=2C alkyl group), e.g. ethanol, in the presence of a substance, e.g. benzene, which forms an azeotrope with methanol at 30-85 deg.C under normal pressure, while distilling off the eliminated methanol in the form of an azeotrope. The equilibrium reaction improres the yield. The trimethoxysilane can be readily obtained by reacting silicon with methanol in the presence of a copper catalyst. |
