Catalyst for isomerization of hydrocarbon was prepd. by treating alumina composition contg. a platinum group metal of 0.1-5wt. % with AlCl3. The product was reacted with polyhalo compd. chosen from the group consisted of compd. with halogen atom>=2 in the same carbon atom or sulfur atom in the presence of redn. atmosphere at 100-600≦̸C.
