A ceramic mixt. is made contg. by wt. 20-90% ferrosilicon nitride and 10-80% alumina or a cpd. of forming alumina during sintering; the mixt. is moulded and then sintered at >=1600 degrees C. The pref. mixt. contains 40-80% ferrosilicon nitride and 20-60% alumina; whereas the cpd. forming alumina is pref. Al(OH)3 which may contain iron; and is not >15% iron powder may be added to the mixt. The ferrosilicon nitride and alumina, or the cpd. forming alumina, pref. all have a size 40 mu m in the mixt.; and sintering is pref. in an inert atmos. of Ar or N2 with a temp. rise of >300 degrees C./hour. The prod. pref. contains 99% crystal phases consisting of a nitride phase and a metal phase. Used esp. for casting pipes used in the continuous casting of Al-killed steel; also for refactories in contact with metal melts. The raw materials for the refractory are inexpensive, but provide high density and good corrosion resistance.
|
