The straight pipes assembled in a bundle in a heat exchanger are supported by a strip of metal folded into a meandering or undulating form. The sections of the strip farthest from its centre line, are curved in the main direction followed, towards the centre line, with a curvature which corresponds to that of the outer surface of the pipes. The pitch of the centres of the successive curved sections on the same side of the strip correspond to the pitch of the pipes in the bundle in the horizontal direction and its curved sections projecting downwards rest on one horizontal row of pipes, whilst the following row of pipes in the horizontal direction rest on the curved sections of the strip which project upwards. To restrict the free dom of the pipes in the bundle to vibrate between their points of support and to ensure that the maximal area of flow is allowed by not having all the points of support in the same plane as happens with drilled plates. The drilled plates make the assembly of the pipe bundle awkward and also impede the flow of the heat exchanging medium longitudinally.
|
