<p>Plant installation for cleaning and destroying agricultural prods. which are mixed with soil and stones, comprises a horizontal, cylindrical rotary drum which is diametrically partitioned into a washing compartment followed by a destoning compartment. Transfer from the first compartment to the second is via a central opening in the partition. In the destoning compartment, as liq. slightly denser than the prod. and substantially less dense than the stones is used for flotation sepn. of prod. from stones. Flotation takes place via an annular channel, pref. of trapezoidal cross-section, formed coaxially in the circumferential wall of the destoning chamber. The dense liq. is pref. prepared by collecting soiled washing water drained from the first compartment and passing it through a cyclone thickener. Density of the heavier fraction from the cyclone is pref. measured continuously and the result used to control fresh water make-up. Used for destoning and cleaning soil from beetroot etc. partic. beet for sugar refineries. Destoning with dense liq. is more effective than rising current sepn. The installation is cheap, compact and requires little maintenance.</p> |
