The lintel comprises an elongated element formed from a single piece of sheet metal which is bent to a hollow closed configuration defining a pair of webs. The webs are joined by an integral element and in use form a horizontal upper surface of the lintel. The lower edges of the webs have integral elements which at one side are secured together to form a protruding flange. The webs may be inclined to one another and coverage towards the element forming the upper surface. The integral elements which are secured together to form a flange are pref. co-planar with one of the elements which forms a horizontal bottom surface.
