The multi-purpose spanner, for use with nuts, screws etc, is in two parts, one of which is an actuating handle (1) with a polygonal socket (1a,1b) at one or both ends. A polygonal male bit (3) fits removably in the socket, its free end being shaped so as to fit over or into the screw head etc. The handle can be a female socket spanner bent into a right angle, the sockets having six or twelve faces to take the correspondingly-shaped bits. The bits can typically be hexagonal bar, shaped at the otber end into a socket-spanner, screwdriver blade, etc.
