The shutter has a double frame with risers (3,4,5,6) and traverses (7,8,9,10), each frame having cross bracing. The two frames are spaced and fixed with respect to each other by double action jacks (15,16). The shutter is wedged into the building opening using base jacks (17,18). The external risers of the shutter carry brackets (19-24) which can be fixed at any height and form the removable half of a fixing. The other half of the fitting is cast into the concrete and forms a starter for any joinery work and can also carry the hinge for the permanent fixing of window shutters.
