To embark a large number of personnel, a service vessel of the semi- submersible type comprises a platform (10), towers (21) at one end of the platform carry between themselves the upper end of an escalator structure (19), the lower end of which communicates with passenger accommodation (14) within the platform. There is a gangway (20) at the upper end of the escalator, extendible towards an offshore structure. There are at least two escalator paths (22), and at least one of them is designed so its running direction can be reversed. The height of the gangway above water level may be adjusted by changing the submersion of the pontoons of the vessels, and preferably also by mechanical means at the towers. These means are adapted to maintain the gangway in a horizontal position, when the upper end of the escalator is raised or lowered. <IMAGE> |
