Grating intended for covering a cesspit, which consists of a number of mutually parallel ribs 1 and is pivotable in the curb of the pit about a spindle 4-4 running parallel to the ribs 1. The ribs 1 are at both their ends joined 2 in pairs A, B, C, D. The neighbouring pairs A and B, B and C, C and D are rigidly interconnected by means of preferably centrally located ribs 3. On its end rib 1-A located opposite the hinge connection, the grating has releasable locking members 5 for interaction with counter-members in the pit curb. When a pressure tool is introduced between the end rib 1-A and the curb, a grating is compressed resiliently, and the locking members 5 are released. At the joins 2, the pairs of ribs have downwardly projecting support legs 8, and the end rib 1-A has a central, thickened surface 6 for acting on, below which there is a downwardly open recess 7. <IMAGE>
