New hydroxyaminohydrocarbonphosphonic acid derivatives are provided of formula wherein R1 is hydrogen or acyl, R2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, ar(lower)alkyl or acyl, and A is lower alklene, lower alkenylene or hydroxy(lower)alkylene, or the ester at the phosphono group thereof or the salt thereof: processes for preparing the derivatives are also provided, the new derivatives possess strong antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including those of the genera Bacillus, Salmonella, Pseudonomas and Entcrobacter.
