The reduction gear with an integral brake has a high speed input shaft (1) driving a perpendicular slow speed output gear (4) connected to the output shaft (10) by a splined sleeve (7). A collar (9) is connected by a friction drive (13) between the output gear (4) and a brake pad (8). It is restrained by a spiral spring (12) fixed at one point to the casing (2). The collar (9) can only turn in the direction of descent of the lift acting as a brake in case of motor failure.
