By means of a blade having at least one cutting edge, the road coating is separated essentially on the sides of the cutting direction. This separating effect is supported by heat: either the heat formed by the sliding, or the heat formed by the friction; this heat may be increased by loading the blade by means of mechanical overload members, or it may be supplied by heating through the blade. A reciprocating motion may be superposed to the motion of the blade, in the cutting direction. The penetration motion may be backed up by a percussion device, for example a pneumatic pick. The blade has two converging separating surfaces in the cutting edge and preferably, fixed to those surfaces, at least one pair of diverging surfaces. The blade (17) may be shaped like a wheel with a peripheral cutting edge. In cooperation with an excavator (43), the cutting device (15) is imparted with a reciprocating pendular motion independent of the forward motion of the excavator. |
