Halovincaminic acid derivatives have the formula <IMAGE> in which R<2> represents an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms, and X represents a halogen atom, where the compounds are 3 alpha ,16 alpha -cis compounds or a racemate of the 3 alpha ,16 alpha -cis and 3 beta ,16 beta -cis compounds in the ratio 1:1. The compounds of the Formula IV can also be present as acid addition salts. The compounds of the Formula IV are obtained by deoximating a corresponding halo-14-oxo-15-hydroximino-E-homo-eburnane derivative, treating it with a base in methanol, and then hydrolysing the resulting compound. The compounds of the Formula IV have biological activity and are used as active compound components in drugs having an antihypoxic effect.
