NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula (R is alkyl, unsubstituted phenyl or phenyl substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxyl, nitro or halogen), and an acid addition salt thereof. EXAMPLE:5-Carbamoyl-1H-imidazol-4-yl benzenesulfonate. USE:A carcinostatic agent, an immunosuppressive agent, an antimicrobial agent and an antiviral agent, particulary suitable for an injection, drops, etc., due to the water-solubility thereof. PROCESS:A 4-carbamoyl-imidazolium-5-oleate or a reactive derivative thereof, e.g. a tristrimethylsilyl derivative, is reacted with a reactive derivative of a sulfonic acid expressed by the formula RSO3H, e.g. a sulfonyl halide, at -100-100 deg.C to give the compound of the formula.
