A speed regulator for a motor comprises a meter 1 designed to measure the rotational speed of a motor axle, which actuates a slide valve 2 in a moveable sleeve 6. The slide valve 2 is hydraulically connected to a servomechanism 14, whose piston 15 is connected by means of a lever 16 to the moveable sleeve 6. This is arranged to return to the starting position by means of an isodromic mechanism 25. The isodromic mechanism 25 is provided with an elastic element 23 connected to the moveable sleeve 6 and with a moveable support element, which is connected to the lever 16 at a point 17 which lies between the piston 15 of the servomechanism 14 and the moveable sleeve 6. The moveable support element can consist of a cataract- shaped element 19 with a regulating valve 20 for a piston 18, which is connected to the lever 16 at the point 17. The cataract-shaped element 19 can furthermore be provided with a shutoff valve 22, which is connected to the moveable sleeve 6 and hooked up in parallel with the regulating valve 20 of the element 19.
