In the connection of the ends of a bond by durable locking elements, a rigid bar is detachably fastened on each band so as to extend over the band width. A rigid structure extending between the bars aligns them parallel to the connecting loops on the ends of the band. After interconnecting the loops over the whole of the connecting length the auxiliary connecting components are removed. The auxiliary connecting device permits the connection of bands ends, e.g. of a paper making felt, in a precise manner without damage to the band.
