PURPOSE:To prevent development of cracks or chipped-off parts in a separator- forming member made of a cellophane so as to aviod the occurrence of an internal short circuit, by humidifying the cellophane tape prior to punching the separator- forming member out from the cellophane tape. CONSTITUTION:A cellophane tape 2 drawn out of a reel 1 is humidified by, for example, causing it to pass above a warm bath 3 heated to 65+ or -5 deg.C and then superposed with a tapelike material, for example, a vinylon-rayon blend paper 5 which has been let out of a rell 4 and will be used as an electrolyte absorbent. While maintaining this superposed state, they are punched out into separator shapes by a die 6. Each of so-punched out cellophane sheets 2 is formed into a separator 10 together with a slightky porous polypropylene film 8. The separator 10 is thereafter assembled in a battery in accordance with a known manner. |
