<p>The self defense system for use particularly by taxi drivers includes a cylinder of compressed gas. The gas may for example have a suffocating or paralysing effect on those who inhale it. The cylinder has a valve intended to be operated by a lever on the end of which there is a pedal. The support housing for the cylinder is mounted in the taxi so that the pedal is conveniently placed for operation by the driver. The outlet from the gas cylinder is connected via a flexible rubber pipe to a branched joint. This feeds further pipes connected to gas diffusers. If the driver is in difficulty or danger of assault, he may operate the pedal to release gas into the passenger compartment of the vehicle.</p> |
