Portable microwave generator for heating in e.g. weed-killing - has compact housing containing all elements for concentrating energy over required area and operates from remote power source

The high power microwave generator is housed in a compact housing and allows 'in-situ' surface heat treatment at a point remote from the electricity supply over a width corresponding to its length. Pref. the housing has two magnetrons (1,2) each coupled to an isolator (3,4) providing protection against reflected energy. The output of each isolator (3,4) is coupled to a parallelepipedic antenna (7) via a respective waveguide (8,9). The waveguide contains a set of constrictors of 'teflon' (RTM) on polyethylene positioned manually or by remote-control, to obtain max. output. Pref. the housing measures 0.24 by 0.70 by 0.60 metres and is coupled to the supply by a flexible lead. The appts. is used in agriculture for disinfecting or weed killing and also applicable to the construction industry for treating bituminous concrete.
