Beach mat for sunbathing - has reflective surface and hinged sides increasing intensity of radiation falling on skin to accelerate tanning

The sunbathing mat comprises a base made either of a vegetable or animal fibre, covered with a layer of synthetic resin (2). This in turn is coated with a metallic surface (3). The surface may be applied under vacuum or may be mixed with the resin for application by a conventional technique. Two side sections of the mat are hinged so that they may be lifted up. This then forms a concave reflector within which the sunbather may lie. The reflector then increases the total amount of solar radiation falling on the skin to accelerate tanning. The mat may also be used under artificial lights to promote rapid tanning.
