PURPOSE:To enhance durability without using a charger, by providing a soft contactor having proper resistivity, an electrode abutting on this contactor, power supply means for this electrode, and a detector for detecting soiling of the contactor. CONSTITUTION:Charging roller 24 is mounted on rotary shaft 25, and it consists of roller core 26 made of aluminum, electrode 27 wound around core 26, and cloth 28 wound around electrode 27 as a contactor. Roller 24 is connected with power supply 31 for applying a given voltage to roller 24, and indicating circuit 46 indicates soiling of roller 24 on indicating part 47, thus permitting the atmosphere and the machine not to be polluted with ozone as is the case with corona chargers, the body to be charged, such as a photoreceptor not to be scratched unlike a roller or a brush, and durability of the photoreceptor to be extended. |
