The anti-theft luggage rack carried by a motor vehicle includes a rack (1) attached to the vehicle which incorporates two lateral guides (2). The luggage (4) contains two longitudinal grooves (3) into which the guides slide when the lower face of the luggage (4) is pushed along the rack (1). When the luggage has been pushed to the end of the guides, a lock (6,7,8) is actuated to prevent unauthorised removal. The lock comprises a pivoting lever biassed away from the rack by a spring (7) and which can be retained in this position by a lock (8).
