PURPOSE:To obtain a large amount of human erythropoietin at low cost, a hormone essential for the formation of erythrocytes which are produced by kidney cells, by implanting human-derived lymphoblastlike cell having human erythropoietin-producing ability in a warm-blooded animal. CONSTITUTION:Human-derived lymphoblastlike cells (e.g., human kidney tumor cell) having human erythropoietin-producing ability is implanted in a body (e.g., urinary bladder, vein, abdominal cavity) of a warm-blooded animal (e.g., chicken, dog) except human to give human erythropoietin, or it is obtained from cells which are propagated while being supplied with the tumor of the warm-blooded animal. The use of human lymphoblastlike cell forms likely a soft tumor which is slightly miscible with cells of a host animal other than human, makes the dispersion after extirpation easy, and collects living human lymphoblastlike cell advantageously. The propagation of cell is more stable in this method than cultivation in vitro, proparation rate is high, and an amount of production of human erythropoietin per cell amount and per cell is large.
