PURPOSE:To enable high-efficiency and high-density recording and reproduction by reducing the loss of magnetic flux of a signal by making the flanks of a main magnetic pole unparalleled. CONSTITUTION:A head consists of an auxiliary magnetic pole 2 wound with a coil 5 and a main magnetic pole 1 having a front falnk 22 slanting in a track width direction and a rear flank in the track width direction. In recording, a signal is first written by the front flank 22, but rewritten through the writing of the rear flank 12 as a medium 4 moves as shown by an arrow 6. Therfore, while the efficiency of writing is held high, a short-wavelength signal is recorded by increasing the sectional area of the magnetic pole. In reproduction, almost all of the read output of the main magnetic pole 1 is a signal read by the rear flank 12 of the main magnetic pole 1, so the width of the main magnetic pole is increased, preventing a decrease in reproduction output. |
