A drop-forged connecting-piece is butt-welded to the rear face of a front tip piece incorporating the traffic-bearing tip, in producing tips for frogs in railway junction points and crossovers. The connecting-piece is drop-forged in the lengthways direction. The front tip piece is cast or freely forged as a wedge-shaped component, or separated from a forging or rolled slab. Gas cutting may be used for separation of components. The advantages of frogs with block-type tips are maintained, while reducing mfr. costs.
