A compost for cultivating mushrooms was prepd. which allowed prepn. time to be shortened and gave stable yields. Thus, added water in compost formulations which are composed of 100 wt. % of straw, 1.5 wt.% of urea, 1.5 wt.% of (NH4)2SO4, 1.0 wt. % of activator, are pre-fermented for 7 day and after fermentation give the product.
