The invention relates to a sandwich construction element with two cover layers made of metal, plywood or fibre-reinforced materials and a reinforcing core arranged between them. The reinforcing core consists of individual balsa wood blocks which are bonded on one or both sides to a fabric. The balsa wood blocks are cuboidal or cubic in shape so that they can easily adapt to the radius of curvature of the convex sandwich construction element. <IMAGE>
