The removable central upright structure is for a covered wagon etc. the upright (3) working at the lower end with a locking device (16). The latter secures it to or release it from the adjacent part of the bodywork (1), while near the top end a component is mounted on the bodywork supporting the upright in the lateral direction in the unlocked position also, when it is moved downwards from the working position and away from the bodywork at the bottom. At the bottom end, the upright can be accommodated in a lockable support hinging on a horizontal axis in the downwards direction. The support and the upright have parts engaging together to prevent the upright moving sideways.
