The connector can be used with bare or insulated heavy-duty cables, typically for current shunting applications or for power tapping points. Both main (4) and subsidiary (14) cables are clamped between the jaws of a vice arrangement. The moving and fixed inner surfaces of the vice have a cup of pointed projections which pierce the insulation and become embedded in the conductor when the upper jaw is screwed down (9). The moving jaw cup (6) pivots (8) to allow correct seating when the pressure is applied. In another variation, only one bolt-tightening action is necessary. The device overcomes the problem of contact deterioration found withscrew-pressure type connectors.
