The torsional damper comprises at least two coaxial parts (A,B) mounted to rotate relative to one another. A circumferentially acting elastic plate resists such relative angular movement and incorporates an elastically deformable arm (29). This arm extends between two support members (34,35) with at least one of which it is integral via a respective root area. These support members are engaged with respective rotating parts (A,B) so as to rotate over at least part of the defined range of relative angular movement. This eengagement may be by means of pins (43). When the damper is applied to a clutch plate, fingers (47) of one support member (35) engage the usual window springs (28A). The inner support member (34) may have a radial slit, the inner and outer support members (34,35) may be relatively axially offset, and the outer support member may be corrugated to form an axially acting spring.
