A transport system for transporting bulky items, in particular building machinery or building cranes, is provided with its own drive. So that such a transport system can be moved, when empty, in road traffic like a normal lorry, the drive unit (2) and trailer unit (4), without the part (1) to be transported, are coupled together to form an independent vehicle.
